Two Years and Still Going….

Hello Everyone,

WordPress has reminded that 12/18 was my two-year anniversary with them. I have to say that it has been fun, informative, entertaining and so much more. I wanted to take a second and thank everyone who is currently subscribing to my blog whether it’s by email, through Facebook, Twitter or WordPress itself. I truly value and appreciate each and everyone who has taken the time to read at least some of what I’ve written here.

This blog started as a means to post papers I wrote in college to see if they could garner the same reactions they did in school. It has since grown into so much more. It’s become a place for me to express opinions, tell stories about my life and the people around me, a place to have fun inter-acting with so many of the great people I’ve met through here. It’s also allowed me a chance to explore photography with the photo a go-go!

It’s been a great two years Thanks Again! To all of you, I’m looking forward to my future here with great joy and anticipation! There is still plenty more to follow!

Happy Holidays & Be Well!

Marty

Party! Party! Party!

A couple of Sundays back I had the opportunity to spend sometime with me nieces. It was Betsy’s birthday party, she is six now and quite the comic… Sadly though, I had to work at the police department so my time here ended up being shorter than I had originally hope for.

By the time I got there the party girl was already in full swing as she and her entourage ran through the house outside and back again!

The Continuing Adventures of Danger and Discovery with Debbie & Betsy

This last weekend I had the chance to take my nieces out for breakfast. I had gotten off of work about 7a.m. I hopped in my car and sped off to Brookfield to pick up the girls and the older of my two sisters (their aunt) whom ultimately I was giving a ride home. She had spent an over-night at the girls house painting their nails and other girly stuff.

Mission of Mercy… Four Cabs and a Fire

The really great story I re-blogged a few days ago reminded me of an event that happened a few months back. I was on the dispatch desk when the call came in… The names of people and most locations have been changed since this event is still in relatively recent times…

It was mid-march the nights were cold but the days were warming up in typical Chicago fashion, I however, was on the over-night shift and so I was treated to the early morning sunshine and promise of nice days on my ride to spend them asleep until late in a day when I could enjoy yet again a brief time in the warmth of setting sun while commuting back to work solo in cold dark night. The Dispatchers and Call Takers work in two separate locations so although I talk to them frequently I’ve never actually met any of them face to face. It was on one of these cold nights that I received a call from a woman whom we’ll call Mary. Mary worked for a property management company in Kane County Illinois, about 40 miles from the cab company. The call taker who received the call heard part of Mary’s story and transferred the call to me so I could determine whether or not we’d be able to service her need.

The Cab Ride

No this story isn’t about me, but with all things I did and the all things I saw and heard about while driving a cab. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true story! I want to thank Rhonda at 50 Shades of Grey Hair for sharing this… Enjoy!

50 Shades of Gray Hair

I arrived at the address and honked the horn.

After waiting a few minutes I walked to the door and knocked.

‘Just a minute’, answered a frail, elderly voice.

I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened.

A small woman in her 90’s stood before me.

She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940’s movie.

By her side was a small nylon suitcase.

The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years.

All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters.

In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.

‘Would you carry my bag out to the car?’ she said.

I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.

She took my arm and we walked slowly…

They May be on to Something…

I have spent countless hours in my life explaining to people how screwed up our economy is and why, I’ve written about it on here as well. But I recently encountered a force that may finally bring about the socio-economic changes I’ve so desperately desired to see…

OK, not all the pictures I take are going to end up on the Blog-O-Rama A Go-GoWhy hadn’t I thought of this! It’s simple, straight forward and it has lucky numbers on it! Most importantly who doesn’t take the wisdom of a fortune cookie seriously? All this time I’ve battling in an intellectual war for the soul of this very nation and all the answers to my prayers of finding a delivery form that would make people think about the important issues in life and to perhaps see things for themselves was only an afternoons Dim Sum away…

The message on this tiny slip of paper that sprung forth from its crunchy and tasty shell covers so many bases, the beginning has strong religious overtones without being in your face to any one particular religion and yet the statement concludes brilliantly with an economic point that stimulates the intellect of most ardent atheist. Just when you thought they couldn’t pack anymore… BOFFO! They hit ya with the coup de grace a smattering of Chinese not only the word but the pictographs as well…

That it, I’m going into the fortune cookie business…

The New Page

It’s been interesting since I started the second page to post Photos. I don’t know if Photobloggers are more gregarious but they certainly seem to search around more. The page is taking off nicely, it’s gaining new followers daily which is really great! It’s been fun exploring photography and I’m going to continue to do so. I have new stuff ready for here too and it will be out in a few days. Looks like things are going to be interesting for a while…

I hope everyone will stay tuned…  😉

Revisiting an Old Haunt

This evening I had the opportunity to visit a place where I and my friends spent many hours over the weekends (and occasionally during the week) hanging out and enjoying some of the best pizza Chicago has to offer…

Welcome to Tweeder?

Thanks to Scott at the Gnostic Bent, this is just too funny!

gnostic bent

The ignorance of some of our fellow brothers and sisters never ceases to amaze me.

In what had to be one of the dumbest moves ever, a worker in a Torontoauto repair shop with a need for some good weed decided to search for some… on Twitter!

Check it out.

Unfortunately for this misguided jackass, the York Regional Police caught wind of his request—which obviously went viral—and responded with a tweet of their own.

And they didn’t stop there.

Since this pot-smoking genius was dumb enough to include both the name of the car shop and its address, an officer decided to forward his tweet to someone who would likely be interested to learn what his employee was up to: a member of the shop’s board of directors.

At this point, Cheech’s brain must have started functioning because he immediately tried to cover his tracks, once again on…
